Built during the first world war as part of Britain's defences against German invasion the two forts were not finished until 1919 and were Mothballed between the wars. Haile Sand Fort which you can see here is a lightly armoured, four storey circular concrete fort, originally defended by two 4-inch guns with a two story battery observation tower on top. During World war 2 both Hallie and Bull Fort were reactivated, modernised with two 12-pounder guns and garrisoned by the East Riding Heavy Artillery Regiment as they again became part of the countries costal defences. Despite being regularly attacked by German aircraft the guns were downgraded to two 6-pounders in 1941.
In 1956 a review of the countries coastal defences both forts were decommissioned and in February of 2016 Haile Sand Fort was put up for sale but remained unsold until October 2018 when It was bought for £117,000 by an unnamed purchaser
